The Chair of African Legal Studies, together with the Research Centre for Fundamental Rights, had the unique honor of hosting Dr. Robert Eno and Justice Professor Dennis Dominic Adjei, the Registrar and Judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, respectively, at the University of Bayreuth. The African Court is the continental human rights court established under the auspices of the African Union to ensure the protection of human and peoples' rights on the continent.
The visit was initiated by Prof. Dr. Thoko Kaime from the Chair of African Legal Studies, who invited the two human rights experts to the University of Bayreuth. After the official welcome by the University Management of the University of Bayreuth, the Faculty of Law and Economics and the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, the guests contributed their expertise to the Human Rights in Africa public seminar on the topic of “The Special Protection of Human Rights and the Rights of Peoples in Africa: The Case of Children, Women's Rights and the Environment”.
In addition, Dr. Robert Eno and Justice Professor Dennis Dominic Adjei participated in a roundtable discussion on the role of comparative human rights law and jurisprudence in regional human rights systems and regimes. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Robert Nanima. Further participants were Prof. Dr. Eva Lohse from the University of Bayreuth, Prof. Dr. Markus Krajewski (FAU) and Dr. Patricia Boshe (University of Passau). At the end of the day, it was evident to everyone that this couldn't be the last exchange, as there is still so much more to learn and discuss.
