Alumnus to become vice president at LMU
Dr Philipp Baaske studied at the University of Bayreuth from 2000 to 2005. He looks back fondly on his time in Bayreuth.
UBTaktuell: What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the University of Bayreuth?
Philipp Baaske: The University of Bayreuth was my springboard into the big wide world. And I think of the beautiful, circular campus with its large inner courtyard. I also think of Maisel's beer festival with its foam parties.
UBTaktuell: Would you like to be a student again?
Philipp Baaske: Would that be so good for the professors? I myself love to learn. And to party.
UBTaktuell: What were your main areas of focus during your studies?
Philipp Baaske: Academically, I focused on biophysics. Socially, I led study groups for younger students and founded a branch of the Biotechnological Student Initiative Germany e.V. (btS e.V.).
UBTaktuell: Did these areas of focus influence your career?
Philipp Baaske: Biophysics led me to the biotechnology industry. Working for and with other students helped me learn how to inspire and lead people.
UBTaktuell: Looking back, would you do anything differently?
Philipp Baaske: I would seek contact with students from other subjects much earlier. And it would be exciting to see how AI is now changing teaching and learning.
