Award-winning research against food waste
Laura Springer receives doctoral award from the German Society for Agricultural Law.
Laura Springer studied law in Bayreuth before joining Prof. Purnhagen's chair of food law in Kulmbach. There she wrote her doctoral thesis entitled ‘Redistribution of foodstuffs in the light of European law’. Springer has now been honoured with the doctoral prize of the German Society for Agricultural Law (DGAR) for her work. The award ceremony took place during the 80th Agricultural Law Seminar of the DGAR and the German Lawyers' Academy at Wöltingerode Monastery near Goslar.
In her dissertation, Springer examines the legal framework for reducing food waste and analyses the interfaces between food law and waste law. She compares the regulations in France, Italy and Germany and shows how different legal approaches can influence both the willingness to donate and the prevention of waste.
Laura Springer is currently completing her legal clerkship at the Bamberg Higher Regional Court. The RW Library in Bayreuth remains a familiar place for her – not only for studying, but also as a place of academic remembrance. Her second state examination is scheduled for 25 November. The University of Bayreuth congratulates her warmly on this special achievement.
