Exhibition on sexism
What is sexism? Who does it affect? And what can be done about it? These are the questions addressed by the travelling exhibition ‘Together Against Sexism’, which is being launched in the lounge of the University Library.
The exhibition ‘Together Against Sexism’ will be opened on 30 October 2025 at 11:00 a.m. by the Deputy Women's Representative and Contact Person for Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence, Prof. Dr. Karin Birkner, the Director of the University Library, Ralf Brugbauer, and the Director of the Equal Opportunities Service Centre, Miriam Bauch.
The exhibition will be on display in the University Library until 15 December 2025. It consists of thirteen posters in English. These depict twelve topics related to sexism: the definition with examples, the historical background, but also the significance for society and strategies against sexism.
Sexism describes discrimination against people on the basis of their gender. Sexism can be directed against all genders, but girls and women as well as people who do not fit into heteronormative, binary gender concepts are disproportionately affected. Article 3 of the Basic Law actually protects people from sexism. Nevertheless, people are affected by sexism on a daily basis. The alliance ‘Together Against Sexism’ is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and is committed to raising awareness about sexism. The aim is to recognise sexism and sexual harassment, to take notice of it and to establish effective measures against it. Further information can be found at: https://gemeinsam-gegen-sexismus.de/.
After the university library, the exhibition will tour the faculties. If you are interested in booking the exhibition, please contact chancengleichheit@uni-bayreuth.de.
