With this new service, the Studierendenwerk is responding to the demand for food options during evening hours and at times when campus dining facilities are already closed. Unlike conventional snack vending machines, the new machines offer more than packaged sweets and beverages. Instead, they stock a selection of products prepared by the Studierendenwerk itself.

The range includes freshly made sandwiches, homemade cakes and salads. “The vending machines were introduced to provide students on campus with access to food even after our dining halls and cafeteria have closed,” explains Andreas Voigt, Head of Food Services at Studierendenwerk Oberfranken.

At present, the machines are restocked on weekdays. According to the Studierendenwerk, weekend restocking is planned but cannot yet be implemented. In the longer term, the service is expected to be expanded further in order to provide even more flexible food options on campus.

With these new vending machines, the Studierendenwerk is creating an additional opportunity to improve food services at the University of Bayreuth. The new offering is particularly beneficial for students who spend long hours studying in the library, attend evening classes, or are on campus outside traditional meal times.
