It began with a crowdfunding campaign by the student initiative "PeriUBT": In autumn 2021, mainly committed female students collected money to be able to set up vending machines with free period products on campus. Even then, support came from the Equal Opportunities Service Office. Its director Miriam Bauch says: "Talking about free menstrual products on campus helps to make the topic of menstruation less shameful," and explains: "The vending machines reduce the stress if I forget a tampon, and for students with a small purse they can mean financial relief. So the project is another step towards more gender equality, and we are happy to support the students!"
