The university opened its doors to the mouse - and to many children
On 3 October, various research groups and departments opened their doors to children from Bayreuth and the surrounding region.
The University of Bayreuth took part in the Germany-wide ‘Open Doors with the Mouse’ event on 3 October again this year. But in this anniversary year, the event was somewhat larger than in previous years! There were seven activities on offer for young scientists – and all of them were fully booked!
Station 1: Energy and Matter – How electricity is chemically generated and stored – SFB 1585 MultiTrans
Station 2: Colouring flowers, experimenting with colours, feeding bees, tracking microplastics – teaching biology and chemistry
Station 3: Back to the past: A journey through the history of the Earth – Rossmann Palaeobotanical Collection
Station 4: What is plastic, what happens to it in the environment, and what do animals think about it? – Collaborative Research Centre 1357 Microplastics
Station 5: The Fascination of Soil – Ecological Botanical Garden
Station 6: Biopolymers for high-tech applications, Chair of Biomaterials & TRR225 Biofabrication
Station 7: The Great Recycling Expedition: On the Trail of Plastic, Chair of Polymer Materials
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the campus was filled with children, and even the cafeteria was completely taken over by kids on this day. The cafeteria team had also thought of the little ones and made the children's hearts beat faster with chicken nuggets, currywurst, chips and pasta with tomato sauce.
