With 98 into the university archive
An unusual research request reached the Bayreuth University Archives at the beginning of the year. A 98-year-old woman wanted to see her documents from the period 1941 to 1945.
Reading of own testimony: "Physical assets and their utilisation: small, slender, very dexterous in play".
The Bayreuth University Archives handled an unusual research request at the beginning of the year. The 98-year-old Maria W. wanted to see her records from the time when she attended the Bayreuth Teacher Training College as a student from 1941 to 1945. This makes her by far the oldest archive user at Bayreuth University. The research was initiated and accompanied by Ms W.'s granddaughter, who travelled from Switzerland especially for the trip to Bayreuth. "We thank you very much that we were able to immerse ourselves in my grandmother's history with your help," she said. Making the certificates, internship reports and photographs accessible was done without any hurdles, because since recently the old holdings of the University of Bayreuth have been fully accessible in compliance with all protection periods, so that citizens with a legitimate interest can take a look at the history of the educational institutions.
The Bayreuth University Archive has been in existence since 1 March 2013 and documents the history and administrative actions of the University of Bayreuth and its predecessor institutions. The holdings date back to the middle of the 19th century. For more information and to get in touch, please contact www.ua.uni-bayreuth.de.
