The University of Bayreuth is once again participating as a team in the Stadtradeln.
The Stadtradeln programme is going into the next round. And the University of Bayreuth naturally wants to contribute to a better climate and better health again. Because: Last year, the university took first place in Bayreuth. 86 cyclists covered a total of almost 16,500 kilometres and saved over 2,500 kilograms of CO2. "Last year's first place was a huge motivation and showed us what we can achieve as a university. But winning is not the focus, it is much more important to us to get as many university members as possible to leave their cars behind and get on their bikes," says Fabian Sommer, research assistant in sports ecology and coordinator of the additional sustainability study programme.
Together with Greencampus, the sustainability office of the University of Bayreuth, the student parliament and the university's health management department, Sommer is stirring up the publicity for Stadtradeln. Stadtradeln in Bayreuth starts on Saturday, 17 June and lasts until 7 July 2023. "Every kilometre cycled counts," says Sommer. "Regardless of whether you cycle privately or on your way to university, the effect is the same. CO2 is saved, health is promoted and even the cycling infrastructure is improved through city cycling."
There are great prizes to be won again this year, but the primary goal is to save as much CO2 as possible. Anyone can sign up for the "University of Bayreuth" team and organise their own "sub-teams" with colleagues, fellow students and friends.
