Stephan Tremmel advises the Bavarian Research Foundation
UBTaktuell: Prof. Tremmel, what does the appointment to the Scientific Advisory Board mean for you?
Prof. Dr. Stephan Tremmel: It is a great honor for me to have been selected for this position and to be one of only seven professors on the Scientific Advisory Board to support the Bavarian Research Foundation and thus help shape research funding as well as knowledge and technology transfer in Bavaria.
What significance does the Bavarian Research Foundation have for the scientific landscape in Bavaria?
In my opinion, Bavaria has a unique institution in Germany in this foundation, which successfully promotes application-oriented research in promising areas with considerable funding and thus promotes the transfer of knowledge and technology from universities and colleges to the Bavarian economy. I consider the Bavarian Research Foundation to be an important location factor, both from the perspective of the universities and, in particular, for small and medium-sized companies.
Which scientific trends and developments do you currently see as particularly relevant for the Research Foundation?
These are currently topics in the fields of nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy technology, communication technology, robotics and artificial intelligence. The Bavarian Research Foundation enables projects to be applied for quickly thanks to low entry hurdles, efficient internal processes and a high-quality and fast review process. This gives universities, colleges and companies in the Bavarian economy the opportunity to pick up on trends very quickly.
What are your goals on the Scientific Advisory Board?
Together with the other advisory boards, I will make funding recommendations for research projects. Basically, I would like to work towards ensuring that Bavarian universities, colleges and companies have the best possible funding conditions.
