Tim Ströbel is Vice President of the largest academic sports management association in Europe
The European Association for Sport Management (EASM) is the largest scientific exchange platform in the field of sport management in Europe. At this year's conference in Budapest, Prof. Dr. Tim Ströbel from the Chair of Marketing & Sport Management at the University of Bayreuth was elected as the new Vice-President.
Ströbel was elected Vice-President of EASM by the previous Board Member, in whose role he was primarily responsible for the research interests of EASM as Scientific Co-Chair. He will hold this office for the next three years. He thus follows in the footsteps of his Bayreuth colleagues Prof. Dr Herbert Woratschek and Prof. Dr Claas Christian Germelmann, who have previously held the office of Vice-President. In his new role as Vice President, Ströbel will now guide the association's fortunes at a higher level. To this end, he will continue to be heavily involved in EASM's research activities, including the content and design of the annual conferences, as well as collaboration in European initiatives, e.g. at the level of the Council of Europe. ‘After more than 18 years in which the EASM community has provided me with an inspiring and supportive network, I am delighted to be able to contribute to the further development of EASM as Vice-President and help shape its strategic objectives after three successful years as a board member and scientific co-chair,’ says Ströbel. The election underscores the University of Bayreuth's long-standing commitment and leading position in European sports management.

In addition to the team from the Chair of Marketing & Sports Management, members of the Chair of Sports Governance & Event Management (Prof. Dr. Markus Kurscheidt) and several former employees were also represented in Budapest, presenting current research projects in the fields of sports marketing & sponsorship, sports governance and sustainability & sports management. The contributions covered a broad spectrum of current and interdisciplinary research – from football and golf to motor sports. In addition, Prof. Dr. Kurscheidt and Prof. Dr. Sören Bär, Associate Researcher at the University of Bayreuth, reached the final of the Best Conference Paper Awards with their contribution.

In addition, FC St. Pauli was awarded the EASM Sport Organisation Award for its cooperation with the Chair of Marketing & Sport Management. The award recognises the exceptional collaboration between a sports organisation and researchers who, through their innovative strength and impact, provide sustainable impetus for research while directly enriching sports management practice. Since 2022, FC St. Pauli and the Chair have been working closely together to provide scientific support for the brand, systematise brand management processes and develop them in a practical manner. Qualitative studies and workshops have made the complex mechanisms of brand management transparent and applicable, with the findings also being incorporated into scientific publications. This combination of scientific depth and practical relevance also convinced the jury.
