Bavaria's Minister of Construction Christian Bernreiter opened the modern complex: “It's great to see that in the current challenging situation, construction is underway and living space is being created - whether for students or the general public. I am delighted that the Free State of Bavaria has been able to make a significant contribution to the realization of additional, affordable accommodation with its funding. I wish all the students who will be living here every success in their studies and a great time.”

In addition to Bernreiter, Prof. Dr. Joachim Hummich, Chairman of the SWO Board of Directors, Dr. Andreas Zippel, 2nd Mayor of Bayreuth, University Chancellor Dr. Nicole Kaiser and Prof. Dr. Steffen Teichert, Vice President of Deutsches Studierendenwerk, spoke at the opening ceremony.

The Am Tappert II residential home is the first state-subsidized total contractor tender with a fixed price in Bavaria. The modern, CO2-free heated facility replaces the decommissioned “Am Frankengut” hall of residence and thus restores the living situation for students to its condition before it was closed. A total of 185 fully furnished individual apartments, each measuring approx. 20 m2, are available to students at a price of €385 including ancillary costs. The dormitory places are already taken before the opening. Interested students can put their names on the SWO waiting list.
