Prof. Dr. Susanne Tittlbach has been Vice President of the University of Bayreuth since 2021, where she has held the Chair of Social and Health Sciences of Sport at the Faculty of Cultural Studies since 2014. Tittlbach researches the health and educational potential of exercise. Participatory intervention approaches for the implementation of health programs are a topic close to her heart. Since 2013, she has also been implementing this directly at the University of Bayreuth by setting up and managing the University Health Management. She was also a member of the founding committee of the new Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health at the University of Bayreuth in Kulmbach.
“I want to work to ensure that the University of Bayreuth continues to develop excellently in the areas of digitalization, innovation and sustainability. We want to create optimal conditions for innovative research, teaching and transfer that can contribute to the necessary transformation processes in society and the economy,” says the old and new Vice President after her election. The University of Bayreuth has already seen sustainability as an important cross-sectional field for several years and has anchored this in a comprehensive sustainability strategy. “In recent years, we have achieved important milestones in the areas of teaching - including the additional sustainability degree program - and the Third Mission. The targeted and necessary climate neutrality of universities while maintaining research and teaching operations is a major challenge that requires innovative solutions. We will tackle this in the next term of office with the introduction of an energy management system and greenhouse gas balancing, among other things,” announces Tittlbach.
Her sustainability efforts do not stop at the campus boundaries: Prof. Dr. Susanne Tittlbach has received funding from the Stifterverband (Donors' Association) at the University of Bayreuth, which will enable closer cooperation between the university and the city of Bayreuth. Susanne Tittlbach emphasizes: “No institution can achieve the transition to sustainable mobility on its own. The implementation of the University's sustainability strategy, our efforts to improve public transport, e-charging and bicycle infrastructure, for example, can only succeed in cooperation with the City of Bayreuth.”
