Conference on University Construction at UBT

A discussion held at the University of Bayreuth among Bavarian university provosts focused on how higher education institutions can build more quickly, sustainably and in line with actual needs in the future. It became clear that a backlog of renovation work, lengthy procedures and new requirements for spatial planning call for fundamental changes.

Two intense days at the University of Bayreuth highlighted how complex and urgent the future of university buildings has become. Under the theme “University Construction Impulse – Addressing Challenges in Bavaria Together,” leaders from universities, construction units, technical services and the ministry explored how to design, renovate and operate academic buildings more efficiently and sustainably.

Discussions emphasized the structural backlog in renovations, the need for faster decision-making, and the importance of integrated planning and facility management. Participants also examined modular construction, digital tools such as BIM, and the influence of new learning and working environments on campus development.
