In a single day, you can find out about teacher training courses on campus, attend a sample lecture in mathematics, learn about food and health sciences, and grab a bite to eat in the canteen to recharge your batteries. All this is possible at the University of Bayreuth's Higher Education Information Day, or HIT for short. Since 2012, it has been offering prospective students the opportunity to get to know the University of Bayreuth campus and its undergraduate programmes directly on site. At the heart of HIT are information lectures on the university's bachelor's and state examination degree programmes and sample lectures from the individual degree programmes. The programme is supplemented by advisory services on general study topics such as stays abroad and BAföG. During the lunch break, the student councils also provide an insight into everyday student life.

Just in time for HIT's anniversary, a new visitor record was set: more than 1,500 people from over 20 schools registered this year – with the catchment area extending as far as Hof, Tirschenreuth, Weiden and Coburg. In addition, individual prospective students from all over Germany and neighbouring countries also travelled to the event spontaneously and without registering. The total number of visitors this year was around 1,800.

The 15th University Information Day was celebrated with a birthday cake, designed by the canteen team, and a selfie wall with the motto "We are HIT." The anniversary HIT ran smoothly, the lecture halls were filled to capacity with attentive and interested school pupils, and the feedback was consistently positive. The student medical team from AK UniSan was there for the first time and, fortunately, had very little to do. HIT is organised by the Central Student Advisory Service.

No sooner is one HIT over than preparations for the next one begin: scheduling, coordinating with schools and speakers, maintaining the website and programme, printing posters and documents, and setting up information stands. A detailed checklist from former main organiser Dr Annelie Schmidt ensures that nothing is forgotten.

Without the support of numerous contributors, such as those responsible for room allocation, central technology, the in-house printing shop, officiants, the press service centre, marketing and communications, student councils, student assistants and the cafeteria team, HIT would not be possible. Equally indispensable are the speakers, who pass on their enthusiasm for their subjects to the future generation of students.

HIT traditionally takes place on the day before interim report cards are issued. Those interested can already mark 18 February 2027 in their calendars for the next University Information Day in 2027. Further information about HIT can be found on the website: www.hit.uni-bayreuth.de
