Prof. Dr. jur. Christoph Krönke has been Professor of Public Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business since 2020. On 1 March 2023, he will follow the call of the University of Bayreuth and take over the Chair of Public Law I. Krönke studied in Heidelberg and Munich from 2003 to 2009, where he also received his doctorate in 2013. After his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Munich (2012-2014), he worked as an academic councillor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich; he finally habilitated there in 2020.
"I basically consider myself a generalist who wants to represent public law in its entire breadth," says Prof. Krönke. "My research focuses on public commercial law, the law of sustainability and technology law." This can also be seen in his habilitation thesis on "Public Digital Economic Law".
Currently, Krönke is researching, among other things, the legal framework of so-called energy communities, in which producing energy consumers supply each other with energy in a decentralised manner. In addition, his research interests also include the integration of AI technologies in public administration, in the interaction of the state with private IT companies.
"I chose the University of Bayreuth in general and the Faculty of Law and Economics in particular because of its decided focus on business and technology. This not only fits perfectly with my personal research interests, but also opens up unique opportunities for inter- and intra-disciplinary cooperation. Moreover, this orientation is also highly attractive for students - Bayreuth has always attracted some of the best students from all over Germany," says Krönke.
In teaching, Prof. Dr. jur. Christoph Krönke wants to move away from teaching and towards learning: "The focus should be on providing students with conditions for optimal learning. This includes, for example, working with cases throughout, formulating clear, tangible learning objectives and the - cautious - use of digital tools such as short learning videos and survey tools."
