Since its launch, close to 300 researchers—including doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, junior professors and senior academics have participated in the programme. Some have successfully progressed to professorships at the University of Bayreuth and other universities, while others have used the guidance, confidence and strategic support gained through coaching to pursue rewarding careers beyond academia, including leadership positions within the science sector and private industry.
The programme continues to make a tangible difference. In 2025 alone, 16 female academics benefited from individual coaching, and since the beginning of 2026, another 10 researchers have already completed or commenced coaching, demonstrating the continued demand for personalised career support.
The coaching programme offers participants the opportunity to discuss professional challenges in a confidential setting with experienced coaches. Whether preparing for a leadership role, dealing with patriarchal structures, navigating career transitions, balancing professional and personal responsibilities, strengthening communication skills, or reflecting on future career goals, the coaching is tailored to each participant's individual needs.
Thanks to newly secured project funding extending the Professorinnenprogramm to 2030, the Gender Equality Service Centre continues to offer scholars this service, ensuring that many more researchers will benefit from this well-established initiative. This is a true reflection of the University's long-standing commitment to promoting gender equality, fostering academic excellence, and supporting diverse career pathways.
The coaching is available free of charge to female and FLINTA academics. Following a straightforward application process and matching with an experienced coach, participants can begin their coaching journey without delay.
Female and FLINTA researchers interested in taking the next step in their academic or professional development are warmly encouraged to apply and become part of a growing community of scholars who have already benefited from this unique opportunity.
