After graduating from high school in Münchberg, Dr. Nico Höllerich began studying computer science at the University of Bayreuth, supplemented by mathematics as a minor subject. He completed both his bachelor's degree and subsequent master's degree with a top grade of 1.0. During his master's studies, he developed an interest in human-robot collaboration, which had a significant influence on his further scientific career and ultimately led to his doctorate in robotics and artificial intelligence under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dominik Henrich.

His dissertation, "Fluency in Dynamic Human-Robot Teaming with Intention Prediction," which received a summa cum laude distinction, has now been honoured as one of the five best robotics-related works of 2025. As a finalist in the RIG Outstanding Thesis Award, this recognition honours his groundbreaking contributions to the question of how robots can proactively recognise human intentions and respond confidently in dynamic situations. The aim of the research is to make robots true team members who not only react but also act proactively. This is a key step towards natural and intuitive collaboration between humans and machines.
