Semesterstart Kulmbach

The University of Bayreuth’s Campus Kulmbach has officially launched the winter semester 2026/27 with a festive welcome event for new students of the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health (LEG). On 12 October, first-year students from both Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes gathered at the Alte Spinnerei to get to know their new academic environment and meet fellow students. Interest in studying at Campus Kulmbach continues to rise. A total of 1,208 applications were received for the upcoming academic year, representing an increase of 322 applications compared to the previous year. Following a rigorous selection process, 270 offers of admission were made for the Faculty’s Master’s programmes. Enrolment for the Bachelor’s programme, which does not require a competitive admissions procedure, remains open until 9 November 2026.

Welcoming the incoming students, Prof. Dr Corina Vlot-Schuster, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health, highlighted the relevance of the issues addressed at Campus Kulmbach: “We are delighted to be welcoming almost 150 new students once again this year and to be tackling the challenges facing food systems through an interdisciplinary approach.”

The official welcome ceremony brought together representatives of both the University and the City of Kulmbach. Among those addressing the students were Prof. Dr Stefan Leible, President of the University of Bayreuth, Prof. Dr Nina Nestler, Vice President for Internationalisation, Equal Opportunities and Diversity, and Dr Ralf Hartnack, the newly elected Mayor of Kulmbach, who welcomed the students to their new university town.

The accompanying programme offered numerous opportunities for students to familiarise themselves with the campus, the city, and key support services. In addition to presentations by the Study Service, the student council, the Erasmus programme and university sports, participants enjoyed guided city tours, a visit to Kulmbach Town Hall, and degree programme-specific introductory sessions.

The welcome event marks only the beginning of a wide range of activities designed to help new students settle into university life. Throughout the first weeks of the semester, the student council, University service units and the City of Kulmbach will host further welcome and networking events to support students as they embark on their academic journey.

The Faculty looks forward to a successful start to the winter semester 2026/27 and to welcoming a new generation of students committed to shaping the future of food, nutrition and health.
