Thomas Spitzlei studied law at the University of Trier, where he also completed his doctorate and habilitation. For two semesters, he now held the chair of Prof. Dr. Heinrich Amadeus Wolff, who had been elected Federal Constitutional Court Judge. "I therefore already had the opportunity to get to know the advantages of the Bayreuth location," says Spitzlei. In addition to the beauty of the campus and the excellent research, the students also inspire him. "I am always struck by how motivated and high-performing the students are in Bayreuth."
Prof. Dr. Thomas Spitzlei will revive the focus on public commercial law and social law. Among other things, he researches the law on asylum seekers' benefits and livelihood security. "I am also driven by questions concerning the future and demographic change," says Spitzlei. "That's why I'm researching the financial viability of pensions and the additional financial burden caused by climate change."
Students will also have to deal with these important topics from social law in the coming semesters and Prof. Dr. Thomas Spitzlei. In the winter semester 2023/24, for example, he will offer "Current and Fundamental Issues in Environmental Law".
