KinderUni 2020 postponed to 2021

This is what the KinderUni 2020 looked like. Prof. Dr. Birgit Weber, Professor of Anorganic Chemistry at the University of Bayreuth, and children's reporter Lisa show exciting chemical experiments that anyone can do at home. There is a lot on offer: bright colors, a magical mass, a pharaoh snake and a cola rocket are among other things on the program. The experiments can be done with simple ingredients that everyone has at home. Please note: An adult should always be present to supervise the experiments and provide assistance if necessary. The chemistry tricks were filmed by Dominik Schramm from the IT service center of the University of Bayreuth. Please find the video below. There the brief chemistry experiments can be viewed and imitated.

We hope that in 2021 there will again be children's lectures in our Audimax. In any case, the topics are already set:

Superpowers and Energy (Experimental Physics)

Why does an egg fall on the floor when we let go of it? How hot is lightning and why does it thunder? Why is there so much energy in tiny atoms? Why is it good when cars break down in an accident? And why do we need renewable energy? Professor Herzig shows experiments on the subject of force and energy and thus presents physics to watch, listen to and participate in.

Beware - electric fish! (Animal physiology)

In many zoos you can marvel at powerfully electric fish such as the electric eel, which can paralyze or even kill prey with its enormous discharges. In addition, there are many other electric fish that can offer spectacular performances. Prof. Dr. Stefan Schuster shows some of these fish, will experiment with them and explain why the animals produce currents and how they do it. The participants of the KinderUni will also see that there are still many exciting questions open and that there is a lot for young researchers to discover!

Pro in my favorite sport - how do I do it? (Sports science)

Who kicks like Toni Kroos? Who plays tennis like Maria Sharapova? How do children find the most suitable sport for them? The search for promising athletes who are worthy of support begins in primary school. Perhaps there is a talent among the visitors to the KinderUni? Prof. Dr. Andreas Hohmann will introduce the children to various competitive sports in order to find the right sport based on motor tests.

Mysterious mathematics - hidden in works of art (mathematics and its didactics)

Mathematics can be used to create beautiful works of art. Conversely, one can discover mathematics in pictures by artists. Prof. Dr. Volker Ulm organizes a mathematical journey of discovery through works of art and shows what the “House of Nicholas” has to do with paths for garbage trucks, how rabbits multiply with sunflowers, and explains other secrets from the world of numbers and geometry.
