State parliament presidium learns about African research
The board of the Bavarian state parliament gained an impression of the extensive Africa expertise in Bayreuth.

Every administrative district is visited once, and the new Presidential Board - it is the first trip after the state elections in October 2023 - started with Upper Franconia, or more precisely: African research at the University of Bayreuth. And it is multifaceted: the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, the Institute of African Studies (IAS), the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS), the Iwalewahaus - some of which will soon be housed in the new Africa Research Building on campus. Prof. Dr. Gabriele Sommer and Prof. Dr. Stefan Ouma presented the IAS, Sigrid Horsch-Albert the Iwalewahaus, Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Seesemann the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence. In addition, BIGSAS Almuni PD Dr. Gilbert Shang Ndi, member of the Young Academy of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Dr. Billian Otundo gave an insight into their research. Dr. Claudia Gebauer explained the afriZert course and Fatima Elmardiya Ahmed reported on her experiences as a student of the European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies (EIMAS).
