Christmas lecture 2020 via live stream: The pandemic and its social consequences for Germany and the world

On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, 7 p.m., the traditional Christmas lecture of the University of Bayreuth will take place digitally for the first time, due to coronavirus. Hubertus Heil, Federal Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, will be the speaker this year. He will address the subject of "The pandemic and its social consequences for Germany and the world". The lecture, to which you are invited by the University of Bayreuth and the Universitätsverein Bayreuth e.V., is organized and designed by the Institute for Medical Management and Health Sciences. It is open to all students, lecturers, friends of the University, and interested parties; digital access is free. The past year has shown us the central importance of health not only for individual but also for social life. The disruption to everyday private and professional life is so dramatic that, in addition to uncertainty and concern, there has also been a variety of resistance. This has been partly due to fears that arise, among other things, from the perception of the social consequences of a serious economic collapse.

In his Christmas lecture, Hubertus Heil will present the findings on the social consequences of the pandemic and shed light on the complex events surrounding health, the economy, and services of general interest. Learning together means seeking a constant balance between tradition and innovation. This can only be emphasized as the message of 2020.

Heil is also the publisher of the “Berliner Republik” magazine and a member of the executive committee of the New Responsibility Foundation and the executive committee of the German Evangelical Church Congress.
