We support your digital teaching at the University of Bayreuth!

For several years now, the use of digitally supported teaching has been promoted by FBZHL. For this purpose, a special certificate programme has been set up, a university prize for digitally supported teaching has been established, e-tutors have been trained, and numerous new further education and service offerings have been developed. This comes in addition to the popular e-learning platform Moodle, maintained by the IT Service Centre, already in place. The very convenient video and screencast tool Panopto was also made available.

Under the current coronavirus restrictions, the topic of 'digitally supported teaching' has taken on a whole new relevance, as all teachers are now required to provide online teaching. In light of this, FBZHL was asked by the University Governing Board to establish a new, complementary support structure, in order to be able to advise and support as many teachers as possible in the development and implementation of online courses. The following presents the newly developed services:

Virtual consultations on everything to do with digital teaching

Already at the end of March and the beginning of April 2020, consultation meetings were being held via video conferences to answer questions on digital teaching. For the coming period, further such consultations are planned, which can be found on the FBZHL homepage. In these video conferences, which last approximately one hour, FBZHL staff will be available to answer your questions, and you will also have the opportunity to share information with colleagues and to establish contacts for subsequent communication. Some of these events are to be held in English for the benefit of our international instructors.

E-tutors will support you individually!

FBZHL has been able to employ and train 19 new e-tutors thanks to funding from the University of Bayreuth. Together with the e-tutors already inducted, a total of 29 trained student assistants are now available as e-tutors. They will advise and assist you by e-mail and telephone in order to select, jointly develop, and design didactically appropriate digital methods for your discipline.

If you would like the support of e-tutors for your courses in the 2020 summer semester, please contact us: E-Mail: fbzhlservice@uni-bayreuth.de

In order to be able to process your request quickly, please indicate the following points:

  • Subject area
  • Teaching course (title, type, number of participants)
  • Particular consulting requirement (in a few words, e.g. help in selecting MoodleTools)
  • URL of the course in e-Learning, as the case may be

We will do our best to contact you as soon as possible!

The e-tutors are well-versed in the use of digital resources in teaching in the context of this temporary switch to purely online teaching. They have an overview of the most important scenarios of non-presentational forms of teaching, and of the possible applications of various digital instruments in the fields of e-learning, video recording and production, as well as digital sharing and collaboration possibilities. They know about the respective advantages and disadvantages, and are able to use the most important technologies and media. The e-tutors will be assigned and supported by FBZHL staff according to the nature of the request. In situations that go beyond the ability of the e-tutor to help, FBZHL staff will take over the further consulting process.

E-Learning Course: ‘Instant Support for Online Courses’.

In this e-Learning course, you will learn about the basics of online teaching, the very basic structure of e-learning courses (for beginners), creating interactive content with H5P in Moodle, holding virtual meetings (video conferencing), producing your own videos or screencasts, and much more. Have a look inside - it's a treasure trove for everyone!

Standard scenarios for online teaching

In this e-learning course, there are now three videos with accompanying material for standard teaching scenarios.

1. Scenario: Make materials available online for self-study, and monitor learning progress with tests
2. Scenario: Online lectures
3. Scenario: Live webinar with lecture, contribution, and interactive parts
4. The 4th Scenario (online presentation by students with discussion) and the 5th Scenario (combination of self-study phases and virtual meetings in the online course during the semester) are currently being developed, and will be uploaded as soon as possible

Mini film studio with green-screen technology: simple and uncomplicated

We have set up a small film studio with green screen technology, with which all teachers can easily create videos. With this studio we offer you the possibility to concentrate on the didactic design and presentation of the information - we provide the technology! The studio can be operated without the need for help; introductory videos will support you the first time. Since in-person access on campus is currently limited, we are checking the general conditions for use. Please feel free to send us an e-mail: fbzhlservice@uni-bayreuth.de

In this context we would like to draw your attention to the video series ‘Rhetoric in front of the camera‘ already produced in the 2019 summer semester, which can be viewed on our homepage.
