What does...? The Career Service
The Career Service at the University of Bayreuth is an important point of contact for all students and doctoral candidates when it comes to taking the next steps in their careers. But not everyone on campus knows what exactly is behind it.
CareerForum, CareerDays, BeyondBayreuth podcasts: It's not easy to get past the services offered by the University of Bayreuth's CareerService on campus. But what exactly does Claas Hinrichs' team do? UBTaktuell asked.
UBTaktuell: Who are the events/training sessions for?
Claas Hinrichs: For our target group of students, doctoral candidates and alumni.
What services does the Career Service offer?
For students, we offer individual career counselling, CV or application checks and simulated job interviews, but also exercises, training and lectures in the 'ApplicationBasics' series. We also have an e-learning course that includes further information and tips on the topics of careers and job applications. Since April 2023, there has also been a career portal for the University of Bayreuth, ubt-career.de. Here, students can register or apply for our events, search for jobs, create a job and/or event newsletter and listen to the BeyondBayreuth podcasts on career orientation.
For companies / employers, we offer a range of different event formats where they can get in touch with future professionals and managers. They also have the opportunity to create a company profile on the CareerPortal and publish their current vacancies for working students, interns and graduates, for example. These events are, for example, the company contact fair KarriereForum, the workshop weeks CareerDays and subject-specific formats such as Companies on Campus, CompanyInsights and JobFenster.
Do the services cost students anything?
No, all our services are free of charge for students, doctoral candidates and alumni.
How do I register for them/can I just drop in?
Appointment bookings for our counselling services are made via our e-learning course. Registrations and applications for our events, depending on what is required, are possible via our career portal ubt-career.de. Interested parties can often come to lectures spontaneously.
How much advance planning do you need?
This varies. A lead time of three days is usually required for counselling appointments, bearing in mind that only a limited number of appointments can be booked per week. The available dates can be found in our e-learning course. For events where you have to apply, the lead time is at least two weeks, for events with registration usually less than one week.
