"It feels like our ISO 27001 certification was only yesterday," says Dr Andreas Grandel, Head of the IT Service Centre (ITS) at the University of Bayreuth, "yet it has already been three years and we have now received the renewal of our certificate after passing the repeat audit. This is because a certificate according to an ISO management standard, which includes ISO 27001, is only ever valid for three years and then has to be renewed."

"Even during the validity period of three years, the certification company, which in our case is TÜV Süd, checks our information security in an annual surveillance audit. This not only certifies that our information security management system meets international requirements according to ISO 27001, but also that it is maintained and continuously improved during its term," adds Information Security Officer Ralf Stöber, "with ITS, the university administration and the university library, all areas at the University of Bayreuth where sensitive data is processed and stored on a large scale are certified."

The Vice President for Digitisation, Innovation and Sustainability Prof. Dr. Susanne Tittlbach is also pleased: "As a university with sensitive data from research, teaching and administration, information security is indispensable for us - not only since universities have increasingly been targeted by hacker attacks. With the extension of ISO 27001, we are making this high value of information security at the University of Bayreuth visible to the outside world."

Chief Information Officer Prof. Dr. Torsten Eymann adds: "With the renewal of the ISO 27001 certificate, ITS has done an excellent job, consisting not only of certification, but also of establishing a culture of secure working in the certified areas and beyond. Because information security concerns everyone at the University of Bayreuth and thrives on everyone's participation."
