Climate Week took place in Bayreuth from 2 to 6 May. It is organised annually by the university's student parliament (StuPa), this year with the motto "Do we need a system change to stop the climate crisis?

Almost 20 initiatives from the city and the university participated in the climate week with events and took the opportunity to introduce themselves on Monday at the so-called Rondell Day. All in all, the participants were offered a wide range of activities, from lectures, workshops and discussions to simulation games and guided tours to gardening at the "Bunten Hügel" or building a raised bed at the KHG. The content highlight was the panel discussion on Thursday on the topic of sustainable management. About 40 to 50 listeners listened to the lively discussion between Prof. Alexander Brink, Professor of Economic and Business Ethics at the University of Bayreuth, Gabriel Wölfel from the Young Liberals of Bavaria, Bruno Kurt from the Initiative Ecosocialism and Sina Reisch from Ende Gelände. Among other things, they discussed whether technical solutions to the climate crisis should be relied on, whether economic growth must be fundamentally questioned and what role the state, civil society and companies must play in the sustainable change.

"We are glad to have brought a focus to the existentially important issue of the climate crisis through the Climate Week at the beginning of the semester. We face a huge challenge in tackling the climate crisis. We won't be able to do that without dialogue and creativity, and we wanted to trigger these thought processes in the participants," Caro Ow comments on the past week. Together with Luca Thomas, she organised the framework programme of the climate week. The exchange cabin, for which the foundation was built during the week, will remain visible for a long time. In the future, people will be able to exchange clothes, household items or decorative articles in an old telephone booth near the Botanical Garden.

Climate Week will take place again next year.
