CoMento programme starting new round in October 2021

After two successful rounds of the 18-month CoMento programme in German and a subsequent round in English, the programme will embark on its fourth round at the beginning of the 2021/2022 winter semester. And once again, CoMento will be offered in English in order to support not only German-speaking female academics, but also international female academics at the University of Bayreuth.

The CoMento programme, which is linked to the Equal Opportunities Unit, aims at the individual promotion of young female academics (doctoral candidates from the second year of their doctorate onwards, post-doctoral, and post-doctoral researchers), and combines the two personnel development instruments of coaching and mentoring for this purpose.

Coaching is understood as a professional and process-oriented form of counselling that offers space for self-reflection and reflection on professional identity. Mentoring means the reciprocal exchange of information and experience between mentee and mentor, which becomes important for the individual career planning of participants in their networking in their respective professional communities or sector as established through this contact. The mentee is supported by the mentor in developing her professional identity. These basic building blocks, which leave sufficient room for adaptation to the individual professional situation of the respective researcher, are supplemented by

  • accompanying seminars in which key skills can be developed or expanded,
  • peer counselling in small groups, and
  • through networking meetings of the participants and meetings with role models.

The CoMento programme aims to encourage women to plan their future careers, to become aware of their own competencies and resources, to network, and in this way to reach leadership positions in research, business, and society. The programme is aimed exclusively at female academics at the University of Bayreuth. We are looking forward to lively interest in this new call for applications.

The call for applications for the fourth round of the CoMento programme applies until
18 June 2021.
