Cultural offensive for the Unicampus and Bayreuth
Daniel Schauf has been Director of “theater am campus” since June 2020.
In “theater am campus”, student initiatives and the Student Parliament
work closely with the professorships of Theatre Studies (Prof. Dr.
Wolf-Dieter Ernst) and Didactics in German Language & Literature
(Prof. Dr. Gabriela Paule). The most recent project to result from this
cooperation is RW11.
As his first “official act”, Daniel Schauf developed a theatre festival as part of Bayreuth Summertime – in cooperation with students and the Bayreuth Cultural Office – with performances, audio walks, and discourse theatre in the empty shops of Richard-Wagner-Strasse 11, the city centre, and the Ecological Botanical Garden.
The enormous popularity of the events made it clear that Bayreuth has a great need for a place to bring together student life, culture, and urban society beyond the University campus. And so, thanks to the support of Bayreuth's cultural office and the commitment of many stakeholders, a resumption of regular hosting of cultural events in Bayreuth's city centre was scheduled for the months of November and December, but postponed for reasons of the pandemic.
As part of Bayreuth Summertime, Daniel Schauf developed - in collaboration with students and the Bayreuth Cultural Office - a theatre festival with performances, AudioWalks and Discourse Theatre in the vacant shops of Richard-Wagner-Strasse 11, the city centre and the Ecological-Botanical Garden.

Under the motto “Stadt.Theater.Bayreuth.”, a variety of theatre projects, exhibitions, discussions and small concerts are now on the agenda again. One of them is an adaptation of Juli Zeh’s classic “Corpus Delicti”, which director Daniel Schauf and students from the University of Bayreuth are rewriting into a requiem for the present. Under the title “Society as Flu”, he asks how we manage to protect the collective community from our seemingly self-determined, individualised, but destructive way of life. There will also be a programme focus on the use of empty spaces and progressive urban development, and further cooperation with the Iwalewahaus and student initiatives.

The starting point for all activities will continue to be “theater am campus”, which, together with the tac working group, Schaulust e.V. and the tireless efforts of student assistants, provides the technical and organisational backing for all cultural activities. And hopefully, regular in-person events, rehearsals, and regular theatre practice, open to all interested parties, will soon be possible again. More information about the planned activities and opportunities to participate can be found on the tac homepage (www.theater.uni-bayreuth.de) and on notice boards on campus.
