Bavarian Minister of State for Digital Affairs visits the FIM
Applied research in Bavaria plays a central role in digitalisation. Cooperation between politics, business and research is key to advancing digitalisation in Bavaria and further expanding the state's pioneering role.
On 8 December 2023, the Bavarian Minister of State for Digital Affairs, Dr Fabian Mehring, visited the joint research seminar of the FIM Research Institute for Information Management of the two sponsoring universities, the University of Bayreuth and Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. Dr Mehring emphasised the relevance of proactively shaping digitalisation through applied research at the interface between practical relevance and theoretical and methodological foundations, as practised at the FIM Research Institute. In particular, Dr Mehring highlighted the digitalisation of administration as a field of action that will strengthen citizens' trust in the state and thus secure democracy in the future.
Mehring is certain that close cooperation between politics, business and science is necessary in order to actively drive and steer digitalisation. Prof. Dr Maximilian Röglinger, Professor of Business Informatics and Value-Oriented Process Management at the University of Bayreuth and Managing Director of the FIM Research Institute, also emphasised the relevance of practical research and cooperation between politics and business.
In the Augsburg and Bayreuth regions, the FIM Research Institute for Information Management has shown in recent years how enriching the exchange and cooperation between industry and research can be. Publicly funded research projects are a proven concept for working together on digital solutions that strengthen and further expand Bavaria's pioneering role. The FIM Research Institute for Information Management has been successfully collaborating with the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs on various projects for several years, including the RegID: SSI@LfSt project and the NESSI projects, which deal with digital identities for various areas of administration. The FIM Research Institute also works on specific challenges faced by industry partners in the field of digitalisation in Bavaria and beyond.
