Francesco Ciucci comes to the University of Bayreuth from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Previously, he had worked as a post-doc at the University of Heidelberg. He also completed his doctorate at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Ciucci studied at the Politecnico di Milano and at the Ecole Centrale de Paris with degrees in aerospace engineering and engineering science, respectively. In Bayreuth, he now holds the professorship of Electrode Design for Energy Storage.
"My research focuses on the study of solid-state ionics for energy storage and conversion," says Ciucci. "I have worked extensively on oxide materials for solid oxide cells and solid electrolytes for solid-state batteries, developing both fundamental insights and practical devices. I also have a strong interest in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy diagnostics, including experimental optimization, analysis, and fast acquisition methods." In Bayreuth, Prof. Ciucci plans to advance work in these areas. "In addition, I would like to work on the development of AI methods for material development and experimental optimization."
Ciucci chose to join the University of Bayreuth because he is convinced that BayBatt’s research can gain worldwide recognition. "I look forward to being part of a faculty that works effectively as a team to achieve excellence in research and teaching."
