Swapping theory for reality was on the agenda for 24 economics students during the summer semester of 2025. From June 22nd to 26th, they traveled with vub e.V., the student association for economics at the University of Bayreuth, to the heart of Europe: Brussels. Their goal was to understand how economic knowledge is applied in real-world political settings.

The packed itinerary included visits to the Bavarian Representation to the EU, the Association of German Banks, and the European Commission (Directorate-General for International Partnerships). Engaging discussions with renowned think tanks such as Bruegel and consulting firms like Frontier Economics offered exciting insights into the intersection of science, business, and politics. A special highlight was touring the plenary chamber of the European Parliament and speaking directly with staff from the office of MEP Monika Hohlmeier.

The excursion proved to be a vibrant bridge between academic study and professional practice—and a testament to vub e.V.'s commitment to providing hands-on experiences. The participants returned to Bayreuth energized and full of new connections—bringing Europe one step closer to the classroom.
