Dr. Gisela Janetzke farewelled by the University Council on 30.09.2021
Over almost a decade, Dr. Gisela Janetzke has rendered outstanding services to the University of Bayreuth.
On 30 September 2021, Dr. Gisela Janetzke was bid farewell by the University Council. “Over almost a decade, Dr. Gisela Janetzke has rendered outstanding services to the University of Bayreuth”, said University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible at her farewell. “As early as 2012, she became a member of the advisory team within the framework of the HRK audit and re-audit on the internationalization of universities. Dr Gisela Janetzke has also been an advocate of the Alexander von Humboldt Centre of International Excellence, the independent funding institution of the University of Bayreuth for international guest researchers. In particular, she provided invaluable support during its start-up phase from 2019 onwards.”
“As a member of the University Council, being on the ground amidst the dynamic development of a comparatively young, thoroughly interdisciplinary university, and the extraordinary commitment, creativity, and enthusiasm coming from all areas of the University in our constructive cooperation, was a very enriching experience for me. I am particularly grateful for the adoption of the forward-looking internationalization strategy during that one University Council meeting, and hope as many students and researchers as possible get to experience the stimulating atmosphere and hospitality of the University personally”, Dr. Gisela Janetzke said in reply to the President’s words.

Together with Dr. Arnim Heinemann, Director of the International Office at the University of Bayreuth, she co-initiated and edited the publication “Humboldtianer in Bayreuth – Ein Erinnerungsjournal” (Humboldtians in Bayreuth – A Journal of Remembrance), which not only contributes to networking with Humboldtians from all over the world, but also documents how formative the research stay in Bayreuth proved in their academic careers.

“As an advisor and motivator, Dr. Gisela Janetzke continuously supported the internationalization of the University of Bayreuth, especially with regard to Latin America, and Cuba and Chile in particular. All this commitment has been in addition to her tireless work on the University Council of the University of Bayreuth, of which she was a member from 1 October 2013 to 30 September 2021”, says Dr. Arnim Heinemann in recognition of Dr. Gisela Janetzke’s services.
