The presenters of Bayreuth UniRadio change every year. And there's a reason for that: "We want someone else to get the chance to try out as a presenter on a regular basis," explains Julika Schnurrer. She is a member of the editorial team and is currently involved in the search for the successors to Rebecca Burkhard and Donata Hörr.

The two students have hosted the programme "Schalltwerk on Galaxy" since last summer semester. "It means an incredible amount of practical experience, which is so valuable for a possible job in radio! Among other things, I took away better articulation when speaking, skills in conducting interviews, technical know-how and editorial work. And another important thing: there are just great people working at Schalltwerk. I just had so much fun this year, we laughed a lot and I will never forget that. Even though it is time-consuming, this experience is just worth so much besides my studies! Practical experience is simply a must (for me) and Schalltwerk is definitely the right place to be," says Rebecca Burkhard, who is currently still at the microphone.

The programme is always broadcast on Sundays from 10 pm on Radio Galaxy Oberfranken. And since the programme runs throughout Upper Franconia on Radio Galaxy, the topics are not only related to Bayreuth. "In the university news, for example, we also report from the University of Bamberg, the Coburg University of Applied Sciences or the Hof University of Applied Sciences," says Schnurrer. Nevertheless, many of the articles are of course related to Bayreuth and the university located here. "But the topics are totally mixed, we are also quite open to different areas," explains the editor-in-chief. The contributions come from different and also changing members of the editorial team. However, the programme is always presented by the same pair of presenters. The programme is streamed on schalltwerk.org or on UniNow every day from 8 to 9 pm.

A new moderating duo is now to be found for the summer semester of 2022. "You don't really need any previous experience," says Schnurrer. "The only requirement is that you are still in Bayreuth for one year." The future presenters will then receive language training, instructions on how to conduct interviews and an introduction to sound technology from the current presenters and the chief editors. "It's always really exciting to see how the presenters change and develop over the course of the year," Schnurrer reports.

In addition to the desire for new things, the future show hosts also have to bring time with them. "Five hours a week is definitely it," she says. "Recording the show is the main effort, but of course we also always debrief and then plan the next show."

If you would like to be a moderator, you can simply apply by sending an email to info.schalltwerk@uni-bayreuth.de. After that, we will pre-select - because of Corona, not all applicants can be invited to the casting. The final selection will probably take place at the end of January or beginning of February. In order to get to know each other and to see who fits the positions, this meeting will then take place in person. "Of course, it's also about finding out how it harmonises," says Schnurrer.

Between seven and eight people work in the music editorial team at Schalltwerk, and a similar number are involved in the main editorial team. Anyone who would like to join the team can contact Julika Schnurrer.
