With the linking of education for sustainable development (ESD) and digital media, Prof. Dr Jürgen Paul is right on target. In addition to digital educational games for ESD, Paul's research also focuses on the implementation of explorative learning in science lessons.

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Paul comes to Bayreuth from the University of Bamberg. He studied biology and chemistry in Würzburg for the teaching profession at grammar schools. He also wrote his dissertation in biology at the University of Würzburg. He also spent a research period at the University of Arizona, USA. After his traineeship, he worked as a teacher for a few years before moving to the University of Bamberg to work in the didactics of natural sciences, where he also completed his habilitation.

Paul will train future teachers at the University of Bayreuth. It is particularly important to him to combine the reality of school practice with findings from subject didactic research. In doing so, he also benefits from the diverse experiences from his own many years of teaching at school and university.
