Prof. Dr. Martin Emmert is the new Professor for Quality Management, Health Economics & Preference Research in Oncology on campus Bayreuth. Welcome! Martin Emmert studied business administration at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and in Mexico. After completing his doctorate as part of the Health Management research group at FAU, Emmert held a junior professorship in supply management there. In the meantime, he has spent a year at Yale University in the USA (Harkness Fellowship) and has completed the “Master in Health and Medical Management” part-time degree programme. Currently, Emmert is leading a research project funded by the Innovation Fund of the G-BA (Federal Joint Committee) on the suitability of patient-reported outcomes for quality assurance and its connection with traditional clinical metrics. Emmert will continue this project at the University of Bayreuth.

In close cooperation with the Bavarian Cancer Registry, the University of Bayreuth offers the unique opportunity to investigate the quality of oncological care, and to implement practical measures based on the resulting findings. Furthermore, I am very much looking forward to the campus atmosphere, and to sharing ideas and experience with students and my new colleagues.

Prof. Dr. Martin Emmert

Emmert deals with the quality measurement of outpatient and inpatient service providers from the patient's perspective. He also deals with the (un)desirable effects of increased quality transparency and performance-based remuneration on the quality of care. The future dovetailing of the work of the University of Bayreuth with the Bavarian Cancer Registry is to be used to further increase the quality of oncological care. To this end, for example, service providers are to receive targeted feedback on the care they provide, and the patient to be placed even more at the centre of attention.

In teaching, Prof. Dr. Martin Emmert will methodically deal with the systematic identification and processing of scientific literature and the analysis of primary and secondary data. Students will be able to work with primary data from the Bavarian Cancer Registry in order to consider the relevant issues in health services research.
