They are the first cohort of MCO students. And that is what the nearly 50 students are told again and again. They are all happy to now have trainee doctors in Bayreuth. And so it came as no surprise that Dr Reiner Hofmann, head of the MCO project office at the University of Bayreuth, had put together a varied programme for the new Bayreuthers.

Dr Marika Haderer introduced the students to some areas of natural science that could also be exciting for the medical profession. The focus was on the interdisciplinarity of the University of Bayreuth. And as a "bonus university", as Prof. Stefan Leible had called the UBT for the students in the welcome speech, Bayreuth brings many new opportunities. Bonus university, because the students still belong to the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen/Nuremberg, but are now also members of the University of Bayreuth family.

In the sports building, Tizian Scharl showed some tests in the training and movement science laboratory. There, the students could also observe how trainers were tested and scientifically analysed next door.

One floor up, the trainee doctors observed how a subject was connected to the stress ECG. They could read the results directly on large screens. Doctor Beate Zunner, who is employed at the Sportinistitut, was also there and explained what her job as a doctor is during these tests.

Finally, the biochemistry department was visited. There was a short practical part which was held by Dr Vlada Gorbovytska, before some small experiments were shown in the laboratory.

The first day of the MCO students at the Bayreuth campus ended with a joint tour of the roundabout to the refectory.
