Stifterverband and the Klaus Tschira Foundation, in cooperation with ZEIT Verlag, have once again announced the programme "One University - One Book". We aim to take advantage of the opportunity this book, its reading, and further discussion can offer the University and its members, as well as the citizens of Bayreuth and the surrounding area. In her book, Rebekka Endler shows how male design, and the male as the measure of things, determines our everyday life - and thus not only makes life more difficult for other genders, but sometimes hinders their access to equal opportunities and even endangers them. We intend to deal with this collection of examples using various formats and events - such as a lecture series and a reading and exhibition course. At the same time, we wish to expand the instances described in the work with other examples and structures that are intrinsically awkward for women and other genders on campus and in town.

You can find an overview of some of the events and initiatives planned at www.einbuch.uni-bayreuth.de.

Book raffle

This summer semester, we intend to raffle the book via a geocaching scavenger hunt at UNIKAT, i.e. on 16 July 2022, in the University's Ecological-Botanical Garden. We will announce the riddles that will lead you to the spots where the books can be found in good time via its homepage, the social media channels of the University of Bayreuth and the Equal Opportunities Staff Unit, and via the local daily press. The geocaching scavenger hunt is set to extend over several weeks - so your chances of finding a book are pretty good!

Special offer

For those who don't wish to rely on Lady Luck, or simply can't wait that long, you can already order the paperback book at the author's discounted special price of €7.20 at einbuch@uni-bayreuth.de or by calling 0921-55 2192. We will inform you as soon as we have received the books ordered, and when they can be collected. Please note that at the moment only a German version is available.

On 6 August, everyone interested can gain an insight into "The Patriarchy of Things". In fact, we are participating in "Bayreuth blättert", the reading festival for everyone in the heart of town. Lisa Kratzer and Dr. Elena Köstner will introduce the author in Baumsaal at 2:30 p.m. and read selected passages from her book. Afterwards, however, it's up to the audience to explore traces of the patriarchy of things in Bayreuth! Exactly what are the deficiencies in the design of the City, its topography, its streets, public buildings, in traffic, and infrastructure? What would a more liveable and lovable city be like? Findings can be submitted on postcards for display or via e-mail to einbuch@uni-bayreuth.de.

We would already like to draw your attention to the reading and panel discussion with Rebekka Endler on 26 October 2022 at 8:00 p.m. in ZENTRUM (Äußere Badstraße 7a, 95448 Bayreuth). The reading will focus on the topics of toilets, work and household space, public space, plus sexuality and social media. The ensuing panel discussion will offer the opportunity to engage in conversation with the author and with each other. Admission is free.
