Award for outstanding degree
Prizes are every now and then awarded to members of the university - but the fact that a trainee is being honoured is something special.

For many years, the Chair of Metallic Materials of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bayreuth has been training apprentices as "materials testers, specialisation: metal". This year, apprentice Lea Diewitz received a special award. The government of Upper Franconia gave her special recognition for her outstanding degree. This recognition comes with a cash prize.
Lea Diewitz was chosen by the school management of the vocational school in Selb. All graduates of vocational schools, vocational colleges and business schools who have achieved a final grade of 1.5 or better are eligible for the prize. The award is granted by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Cultural Affairs.
Lea Diewitz completed her training at the University of Bayreuth from 2018 to 2022. The Chair of Metallic Materials has been training here since it was established. So far, there have been ten trainees and two retrainees. It is obvious that the university also offers apprenticeships in addition to the study opportunities in these fields: Due to the local conditions such as laboratories, technical equipment and examination possibilities, the training is an obvious choice. In addition, the demand from industry for materials testers is extremely high.
After completing their training, many of the apprentices are taken on by industrial companies, but it is also possible to become a technician or to continue their education at the FOS/BOS. Finally, trainees actually came back to the chair as students some time later.
