The exchange on Rebekka Endler's book, "The Patriarchy of Things, Why the World Doesn't Fit Women," is taking off in the winter semester. Recently, the official award ceremony of the Stifterverband took place in Berlin. Now all interested parties can go in search of clues. Deficiencies in design are to be found. This refers to products, structures and power constellations that are oriented towards the male as the norm and thus produce inequalities. In this way, equal opportunities are not possible for many people. These things and structures are to be identified, but approaches to solutions are also part of the concept in order to counteract injustice.

For students, the lecture series "The Patriarchy of Things - On the Gendering of Objects, Structures and Hierarchies in Interdisciplinary Perspective" will be offered on Thursdays at 18.00 c.t. in H26. In addition, Nicole Klug, M.A. and Dr. Elena Köstner will host the German-English block seminar "Why (the University of) Bayreuth doesn't suit women. How male design determines our everyday life." or "Why the (University of) Bayreuth does not suit women. In search of traces of patriarchal design" (Wednesdays at 10.00 c.t.). The joint search for traces will lead to an exhibition in the Iwalewahaus, curated by the students themselves.
At the beginning of the winter semester, the scavenger hunt with book raffle will also continue. However, copies of the paperback book can also be ordered at the discounted special price of 7.20 euros via einbuch@uni-bayreuth.de.
Visit of the author
Rebekka Endler will come to the ZENTRUM for a reading followed by a discussion on October 26, 2022 (admission is at 7:30 p.m., start at 8 p.m.). The reading will focus on the topics of toilets, work and household space, public space, as well as sexuality and social media. The panel discussion that follows will provide an opportunity to engage in conversation with the author and each other, and together become more sensitive to often unintentional disadvantages. Admission is free to give everyone interested in the topic and a mutually inspiring exchange the opportunity to participate.
