Prof. Dr. Robert Magnus

„The University of Bayreuth stands out for its beautiful campus, its committed and assiduous students, but also because of my many excellent colleagues, who are renowned in Germany and internationally", says Prof. Dr. Robert Magnus.

After studying law in Freiburg i.Br. and Paris, Magnus received his doctorate in 2009 with a thesis on civil procedure at the University of Freiburg i.Br. After his legal clerkship with stations in Freiburg i.Br. and Los Angeles, he moved to the Institute for Foreign and International Private and Business Law at the University of Heidelberg in 2011 as a post-doctoral lecturer and senior research associate, and habilitated there in 2017. Magnus subsequently chaired research groups in Bonn, Regensburg, Göttingen, and Heidelberg. From the beginning of 2019 until his move to the University of Bayreuth, he held a professorship for Civil Law, Private International Law and Civil Procedure Law at EBS Law School in Wiesbaden.

His research focuses on European and international procedural law, private international law, and family and inheritance law. Indeed, Magnus would like to further strengthen the profile of the Bayreuth faculty in research and teaching in these areas. "The University of Bayreuth stands out for its beautiful campus, its committed and assiduous students, but also because of my many excellent colleagues, who are renowned in Germany and internationally. I have also come to appreciate the good atmosphere in the Faculty and the short distances in Bayreuth. I was also impressed by how quickly and effectively the particular challenges of the coronavirus crisis were dealt with at all levels, for example, the switch to purely digital teaching. In this regard, one can only pay the entire University a big compliment. I am very much looking forward to my work and will give it my full commitment," said Prof. Dr. Robert Magnus
