Start of semester in Kulmbach

Almost 400 applications were received for this summer semester. After an intensive selection process, 80 applicants from 18 different countries were finally offered a place. Enrolment is still possible until 10 May. "In the end, we expect around 50-60 students in the summer semester. The acceptance rate is thus above average," says Stephan Clemens, Founding Dean of the Kulmbach Faculty. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, most of the teaching in the summer semester will be online. This means that even those who are still waiting for their visas in their home countries, and will only arrive in the course of the summer semester, will be able to start their studies on time, right from the start. Nevertheless, the student residence in Petzmannsberg is currently filling up, and there are only a few rooms left.

We are very pleased to be entering into an intensive exchange of experience and ideas with our first students, and looking forward to our discussions on the global challenges of our time.

Culture of welcome in the fore
Even if almost no welcome events can take place at the moment, our new students should be feeling right at home in Kulmbach, right from the start, and take advantage of various opportunities to get their bearings. For example, the sponsorship programme, which brings Kulmbach citizens together with international students, is very popular. Furthermore, the City as well as numerous Kulmbach businesses and shops have contributed welcome gifts to the KulmBag initiative, a useful first-semester bag that is given to new students when they arrive in Kulmbach.

Growing team of professors
Prof. Dr. Stephan Clemens, Founding Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition & Health: "We are very satisfied with the development of the newly founded faculty and are pleased that our degree programmes are in such high demand." Not only the number of students, but also the team of professors at the Kulmbach campus is growing steadily. Seven professors are now researching and teaching in Kulmbach, and shaping the interdisciplinary character of the Faculty. And further professorships are on the way.

The two master's programmes "Food Quality & Safety" (M.Sc.) and "Global Food, Nutrition & Health" (M.Sc.) will again be accepting new students for the 2021/22 winter semester. Applications are now open. Further information can be found here: www.f7.uni-bayreuth.de
