Structural changes in the organisation of the university
The organisational structure of the University of Bayreuth is complex and constantly evolving. The structure of the organisational units has now been revised. The changes will come into effect on 1 October 2022.
One aim of the reorganisation of the organisational units is to reduce the multitude of designations and to distinguish them from each other. Therefore, designations have now been more clearly defined. The management relationships of individual organisational units were also reviewed and adjusted where necessary. "With the revision of our organisational chart, we have managed to organise our units more efficiently and position ourselves fit for the future," explains Chancellor Dr Nicole Kaiser. "This will be helpful, for example, when setting up new organisational units in the future or optimising process design as well as further digitalisation." New organisational units can now be clearly assigned and management relationships can be set up analogously to existing units so that uniform handling and process design is possible.
The changes include, for example, that the terms "staff unit" and "service unit" can now be better distinguished. "Staff units" directly support the President and the Chancellor and are subject to their technical instructions. "Service units, on the other hand, provide advice and support for researchers, teachers and/or students and are subject to the professional instructions of the members of the university management.
In addition, the advisors for studies and teaching are now bundled under the name "Servicestelle Prozessbegleitung und Unterstützung im Bereich Lehre und Studierende (PULS)" (Service Office for Process Support and Support in the Area of Teaching and Students). Previously, they were known as "EduCare".
In addition to the already existing areas, the categories "commissioners" and "scientific cooperation" were created. "Commissioners" perform tasks on special matters that have usually been assigned to them in addition to their main job. They act largely independently in this function. "Science cooperations", such as TechnologieAllianzOberfranken or Medizincampus Oberfranken, coordinate institutional cooperations with other universities and/or colleges.
Department V now includes Internal Logistics (formerly Post Office/Internal Service) in addition to Faculty Affairs.
"At first glance, the organisational chart seems huge, of course, but our university family has grown and broadened, so the adjustments made sense," says Kaiser. "The clearer separation and concrete definition of the organisational units also makes it easier for our staff to work."
