UNIKAT is a summer and dance event in the Ecological Botanical Garden of the University of Bayreuth featuring many musical and culinary delights. This year it will take place under the motto of "Back to the Roots". Rebecca Schmid from the organisational team was happy to answer all our questions about the event for UBTaktuell.

Back to the Roots, how did you hit on that name and what does it mean?

Rebecca Schmid: After a two-year break, we finally want to get back to our UNIKAT in the Ecological-Botanical Garden in person, and get back to our roots.

How long have you been preparing? How time-consuming has it been?

The preparations already started in autumn. The organisation takes a lot of time, but the work in the different departments "logistics, catering, social programme, marketing, and sponsoring" is very varied and interesting.

Who actually organizes UNIKAT?

UNIKAT is an event of the University of Bayreuth and is organised over two semesters as part of a seminar by different students from the Business Administration, Sports Economics, Media Culture, and Media Business degree programmes. The event is also supported by the Universitätsverein.

What‘s the programme planned for the night?

Over 70 artists will offer us a varied programme on 6 stages. Bands from the genres of pop, indie, soul, jazz and hip hop will provide the musical background. There will also be a number of workshops, including body painting, a salsa course, a hummingbird painting workshop, a handicrafts corner for young and old, and paradisiacal decorations with lots of photo spots.

Food and drink will also be provided. Five food stalls with delicious offers, two cocktail bars and one smoothie stand of the AOK Bayreuth will provide enough energy to enjoy the event to the full.

How many people are coming?

In previous years, the event has attracted around 1000 guests. We hope that many visitors will join us in reviving UNIKAT again this year. Everyone is welcome at UNIKAT - whether young or old, from Bayreuth or elsewhere!

Anyone wishing to get involved in UNIKAT can sign up as a volunteer.
