Mensateria Opening in Kulmbach
Since this semester, the students of the University of Bayreuth in Kulmbach have their own canteen in the old spinning mill.
Many VIPs were guests when the Student Union of Upper Franconia and the Faculty VII of the University of Bayreuth invited them to the canteen opening in mid-April. After all, the faculty combines life sciences, or more precisely: food, nutrition and health, not only in its name, but also across disciplines in research and teaching. It is obvious that the daily nutrition of students and staff is of great interest.

In the old spinning mill, in the interim building of the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health, one floor below the seminar rooms and the assembly hall, there is now everything that the student needs to get through the day well, for example herb farfalle with vegan sauce or wild garlic cordon bleu of pork, pea and carrot vegetables or Israeli lentil salad with leeks, pasta salad with pea pesto and rocket or savoy cabbage and tangerine salad "Thai style", a salad bar is also to be added soon. Because: "Clever minds want to be well nourished," says University President Prof. Dr. Stefan Leible. Josef Tost, Managing Director of the Upper Franconia Student Union, at the opening ceremony emphasises the importance of a canteen for students: "In times when a kebab at a snack bar costs up to 6.50 euros, a hot meal for three to four euros is definitely an important help for our students."
The Mensateria is another piece of the puzzle to put together the big picture of the emerging faculty in Kulmbach. Since 2017 - when the then Prime Minister Horst Seehofer and the then Mayor of Kulmbach Henry Schramm announced the establishment of the faculty in Kulmbach - a lot has happened: Three degree programs have started, 12 professorships have been filled, and many employees have been hired, the main administration has moved into the Old Villa, seminar rooms and a large auditorium, offices and student council rooms have been moved into the old spinning mill, state-of-the-art laboratories have been built in the "fritz" shopping centre across the street: This is "a unique success story," as University President Leible calls it.
