Internal Funding Pool for Research Activities at the University of Bayreuth
The Internal Funding Pool of the University of Bayreuth re-launches on 6 November 2023 under the leadership of the Vice President for Research and Junior Scholars: Starting from postdoctoral level, researchers of the University of Bayreuth can apply for funding for their research activities in five funding lines.
Scientists need time and good ideas for their research, but usually also financial resources for important preparatory work, staff or material expenses. The Internal Funding Pool, financed by the university contract with the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts, provides low-threshold funding for these expenditures without considerable delay. „The University of Bayreuth strongly supports its researchers in obtaining third-party funding in competitive procedures, developing national and international cooperations and participating in interdisciplinary collaborative projects“, explains Prof. Dr. Thomas Scheibel, Vice President for Research and Junior Scholars. „The first edition of the Funding Pool showed a great need among our scientists to adequately support research proposals, publications or events and thus to make Bayreuth research more visible.“
To this end, five funding lines cover the broad spectrum of scientific work:
- With the PUSH funding line, the Internal Funding Pool supports initiatives for potential lighthouse projects at the University of Bayreuth. These include larger collaborative projects whose preparation involves significant organisational and personnel effort, e.g. a Collaborative Research Centre (DFG) or an EU consortium (deadline: 31 March, 2024)
- In the TALENT 5/5/5 funding line, we offer seed money for smaller research projects to promote scientific independence for postdocs up to 5 years after their doctorate (deadlines: 15 January and 15 May, 2024)
- Initiatives to promote science communication receive support through OUTREACH, to communicate research through e.g. participatory events, media formats and campaigns (deadlines: 15 January and 15 May, 2024)
- In order to place publications in high-ranking journals and with established publishers as well as to bring applications for relevant programmes of the major funding bodies into a convincing form, EDITING offers financing of an editing service for international publications and application texts (applications all year)
- Finally, IMAGE focuses on the visual communication and illustration of research topics for publications, applications or events. This includes, for example, visual abstracts, graphical recordings or cover images for journals and monographs (applications all year).
Applications can be submitted as of now for measures in 2024. Researchers can find further information on the funding lines and application procedures on the website of the Research Support Office; Dr Mirjam Horn-Schott, the responsible research consultant at the Research Support Office, is available for queries at foerderpool@uni-bayreuth.de.
