In 2013, the University of Bayreuth took on a board of trustees. The aim of the Board of Trustees is to achieve stronger networking with the region and, above all, the reigonal economy. Heribert Trunk has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees since the beginning.
With Prof. Dr. Joachim Wuermeling, member of the Executive Board of the Bundesbank, an alumnus of the University of Bayreuth has now been appointed to the Board of Trustees. Born in Münster, he came to Bayreuth to study and earned his doctorate in law here.
Keeping a finger on the pulse
Wuermeling, who was a member of the European Parliament between 1999 and 2005 and European State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology from 2005 to 2008, will now also contribute his expertise to the Board of Trustees. "Top universities like the University of Bayreuth need to have their finger on the pulse of the times," says Wuermeling. "The Board of Trustees, with its members from all walks of life, plays an important role in this. For me, being involved is a very personal concern. Because as an alumnus, I remain connected to the University of Bayreuth. The foundations for my professional career were laid here."
The Board of Trustees of the University of Bayreuth is composed of personalities from business, culture and politics and supports the University in representing its interests. The members advise and promote the University and serve in an honorary capacity.
