On February 1, 2021, Prof. Dr. Christian Fikar took up the professorship of Food Supply Chain Management, which is located at the Faculty VII of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health at the Kulmbach campus.
Prof. Dr. Christian
Fikar's research focuses on business management issues in food value chains,
especially in relation to time-critical logistics processes and the provision
of computer-based decision support.
Fikar studied supply chain management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and subsequently received his PhD and habilitation
from the University of Natural Resources
and Life Sciences, Vienna. He
continued his scientific work at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in recent years. During his studies and research
activities, he completed several stays abroad, mainly in the USA, Taiwan, Spain
and most recently at the HUMLOG Institute of the Hanken School of Economics in
Helsinki, Finland.
Fikar's methodological teaching and research interests are in operations
research, operations management, and business analytics with the goal of
increasing resilience, sustainability, and efficiency of food value chains. For
example, the scientist researches the effects of different logistics decisions
in the mail-order food business. On the one hand, this enables more efficient
processes and, on the other, can contribute to a reduction in food waste. The
focus here is primarily on short food supply chains, i.e. regional supply
chains. Prof. Dr. Christian Fikar is pleased to analyze these networks in Upper
Franconia and to sustainably promote them through his teaching and research.
