CarSharing at the University of Bayreuth
Green Campus facilitated a permanent location for car sharing providers on campus. This should make more students aware of the shared car option.
The University of Bayreuth has a high density of parking spaces. GreenCampus nevertheless wants to promote the switch to alternative mobility options. This includes, for example, car-sharing cars at the university, as well as other projects around the topic of bicycle mobility. For this reason, the university is cooperating with the Ökobil e.V. association from Bamberg through the GreenCampus initiative.
Ökobil e.V. has been offering station-based car sharing since 1992, since 2017 under the brand "meiaudo". A neighbourhood initiative has given rise to a company that still takes ecological awareness into account. In Bayreuth, CarSharing by Ökobil e.V. has been present since 2015 and offers vehicles not only at the campus of the University of Bayreuth, but also at the train station and in the city area.
The CarSharing cars on campus have a specific location: there is always a Renault Kangoo at the "Mensa" car park next to the GW building.
A station-based CarSharing system has several advantages for the users and the community. It demonstrably reduces motorised private transport, the number of vehicles and thus also parking pressure. The Bundesverband CarSharing in Berlin uses a rule of thumb: One station-based CarSharing vehicle replaces up to twenty private cars. Station-based CarSharing thus creates space in public spaces and can thus contribute to an increase in the quality of life, especially in city centres. CarSharing is therefore considered an important component of innovative mobility concepts.
meiaudo offers CarSharing cars in Bayreuth and Bamberg, which can be rented in different ways. The main difference is whether a customer of meiaudo wants to become a member of the association at the same time or wants to rent a car without taking out a membership via Flinkster (CarSharing division of Deutsche Bahn). The two options have different conditions. Further information is available on the meiaudo homepage or on the GreenCampus CarSharing page:

And this is how it works:
When you register, you receive a membership number and a customer card. Registration is also possible in the UniShop. With the customer card, the desired car is booked directly on the website at www.flinkster.de, by phone or via the app. Around the clock, well in advance or spontaneously, for an hour or as long as you like. To get into the booked car, simply hold the customer card up to the reader in the windscreen, the doors open and the key is in the glove compartment. At the end of the journey, the car is parked in the same place and locked with the customer card. The trip data (kilometres and time) are automatically recorded and you receive a detailed monthly statement of the trips made.
