Tina Bartelmeß studied ecotrophology and nutrition economics at Justus Liebig University Gießen. After her studies, she worked with a non-profit women's organisation in Uganda in the field of water, sanitation, and hygiene, assisting in and implementing several development cooperation projects. On returning to Germany, she completed her doctorate at Justus Liebig University Gießen in the field of social science nutrition research. In her career so far, the scientist has already made a significant contribution to building up and establishing the still young research field of social nutrition communication.

I am very pleased to be able to use my teaching and research at the Kulmbach campus to develop the basis for an interdisciplinary debate and understanding on the research subject of nutrition, and, in particular, to lend more weight to the social and cultural aspects of nutrition in scientific discourse.

Prof. Dr. Tina Bartelmeß

Tina Bartelmeß would like to continue her research focus on the communicatively-mediated structures of dietary behaviour at the University of Bayreuth and expand it from a sociological viewpoint: "In order to better understand people's actions with regard to nutrition, a multi-perspective view as well as inter- or transdisciplinary approaches are necessary. As a young and innovative university with interdisciplinary focus areas, the University of Bayreuth offers the perfect starting point for precisely this." The focus of the junior professorship is on nutritional action, and the question of how nutrition-relevant structures are formed in social communication and how they affect nutritional action, especially in the form of norms and values.

One particular focus is on the topics of health and sustainability, which manifest the social relevance of nutrition and nutritional action. The aim of her research activities is to contribute to a better understanding of nutritional action and to derive the scientific foundations for addressing specific groups and social actors in promoting healthy and sustainable nutrition.
